Lovely staff... you should be proud of them
All the nurses that dealt with me were charming and efficient. I was made to feel confortable and reassured.
The gastroenterology department is run with ruthless efficiency and I have no complaints. The only suggestion I would make is that there were more IBD Specialist Nurses to take some of the burden of ongoing care from Dr. Hayward and his nurses.
Car parking needs improving
Nurses and other staff seemed to spend very little time with the patients. On one occasion I had to wait by my bed for over an hour on a new ward as there was no fresh laundry. Staff seemed to spend much of their time chatting and left samples in the toilet for hours before they were collected.
The food was awful, even cups of tea were dreadful.
When I was eventually told I could go it took five hours for me to get out as I was told the pharmacy took time to get around. My husband came to collect me and was turned away, he had to come back later.
I have twice spent time in Derriford and I can say neither time was pleasant.
Whilst I cannot fault the clinical staff/cleanliness etc I do feel the area that lets the Outpatient Department down is the reception staff. I find it quite frustrating that whilst they can see you standing there they choose to ignore you and carry on making themselves look busy. Whilst I appreciate they may have to make notes etc on the computer/make phone calls perhaps they could at least give you eye contact and reassure you that you have been acknolwledged. For a lot of people going to the hospital is a stressful eperience and being ignored by the reception staff only adds to that stress.
A pleasant visit to Derriford Hospital.
Reception did not have my file to hand but it was not long in arriving at the desk.
Thanks to everyone for their care.
Kind regards.
Tony Jeffs.
Not enough nurses for care on the wards (or so I have been told) The wait in Outpatients cn sometimes be very long. The cost of parking is far too high. A city centre to Derriford return on Citybus costs £3.30 which again hits the wallet hard if you must travel their a lot.
I received excellent care at Derriford Hospital. The nursing staff and doctors were very attentive and thorough. The dinner ladies and cleaners were very efficient. My recovery was made all the better by this care.
I have used Derriford Hospital on many occasions for different illnesses and like everything there is good and bad within it.
I feel the cleanliness has improved and that can only be a positive thing, but I still see a lot of nurses with miserable faces and I acknowledge that there is a lot of stress in their jobs but what patience like to see is happy faces and someone they can talk to. I have worked in the health service for many years and think there is too much writing and not enough practical caring on the wards.
Having said that I have always been well cared for.
